And Then

Let’s make this a quick one. Jolene here, wanted me to try this exercise. And so, I gave it a try. Can’t think of any poem so I went with Lang Leav’s And Then because Pavement has a song with the same title. I also remember that one joke in that stoner movie Dude, Where’s My Car? around the time Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott “Stiffler” were probably the “coolest” dudes around. And then… here’s what I assembled. Not sure if I broke some rules. Maybe I did. Maybe, I’d add one or two more poems later, maybe one from Bukowski. Maybe not. Update: Maybe yes. I added two more poems, one is Lang Leav’s “Wishing Stars,” (which I find more challenging/fun to translate) and one is from Bukowski.

And Then
by Lang Leav

I always thought the words, and then, were a prelude
To something wonderful. Like seeing a ship come in
Or finding a note in your letterbox, when you weren’t
Expecting one. That swift, surprising transition from
Nothing to everything.

           And then.

Two little words that hold a world of promise.

And then, the light pierced through the dark,
Forbidding sky, and the rain stopped falling.

          And then I met you.

Tapos

           Tapos, nakilala kita.

Bulalakaw

Hinahanap pa rin kita
sa gitna ng maraming tao,
sa malawak na parang
sa ulap sa kalangitan.

Sa mga ilaw sa ciudad
sa mga kotseng nagdaraan,
sa liko-likong daan
at mga bulalakaw.

Naisip ko, nasaan
ka na kaya ngayon,
matagal ko nang ‘di nagawang
sambitin ang pangalan mo.

At mas matagal pa mula nang
sabihin kong ikaw’y akin—
lumipas na ang panahon
para sa’tin.

Pero nasanay na ako
nang wala ka,
di ko na alintana—
kahit papa’no, ibig pa rin kita.

Isunod mo ‘yung Bukowski poems please! Hehehe. 😀
